Creating = Growing

This article unpacks why breathwork and the act of creation are intimately connected and defines the 2 different ways breathwork opens our creativity.

To create means to “bring into being” and comes from the Latin creare, a past participle of create meaning to “make, bring forth, produce and cause”. It is also connected to the Roman Goddess of agriculture, Ceres, and to the word crescere meaning “to be, born, increase and grow”.

On the healing journey, we become more powerful creators because we are becoming more powerful growers. We grow our creative projects and everything in our life through the creative channel that is our attention. This channel flows like water and is a big reason why technology is designed to be so fluid and efficient. Our devices guide our fluid creative (and consumptive) channel through the structure that is pixels, code and numbers.

Breath and the act of creative expression both carry the same “physical” properties of fluids- mainly that they both are designed to move. Though breath and creative expression are 2 different things in the physical realm, they are both connected in the energetic realm at the foundational level through Feminine creative energy which underlies their physical expression.

What makes both breath and creativity healing and transformative is this common fluid movement of creative energy through our organism.

The 2 different ways breathwork opens up our creativity:

1) The first type of creativity we experience in Breathwork is more mental.

Breathwork is a powerful tool to work with creatively, simply because the practice gives us access to more information in the present moment. This allows us to make new connections, see relationships between the different data points in our lives, and in turn, solve problems creatively with this new information.

Breathwork turns down the linear, focused mode of thinking in the conscious mind, and opens us to the storehouse of information in the subconscious where the entirety of our life experience is recorded.

I like to think of the flashlight analogy.

Say you lost your keys in a dark room and you are searching for them with a flashlight. You can only see where the light is shining, but then you have the idea to turn the light on in the room and all of a sudden, you find your keys, but you also see that the room is a mess! Because of this new awareness and this new information, we can take action on cleaning the room and putting things back together. This is a symbol of how the breathwork experience opens us up to more information in the present moment. What we do with that information is completely up to us.

Breathwork is an effective vehicle to use to access the quantum network of infinite intelligence and information. When we make connections in this realm and bring what we see in these experiences to the real world, we become the creators we are designed to be.

2) The second creative aspect of breathwork is less mental, and more emotional.

This second type of creativity is not learned, it is opened. This creativity is an opening to the creative force of the universe moving through the human organism and into the world of form how it wants to move and how it was designed by The Creator to move.

Trying to stop this oceanic force creates disease and pain. This organic force is free of the contamination of societal mental programming. It is a natural expression of Nature.

Breathwork effectively clears and moves the stuck emotions that we have held in our bodies for the entirety of our lives that block this force.

Emotion rhyming with motion and ocean is no coincidence. Emotions need to be in motion like the ocean is in motion. It is through the simple act of moving this energy through breath and creative expression that we heal. Through feeling, accepting and embracing the totality of who we are and what we have experienced, we thaw what was once frozen, and the energy starts to flow again (shown in the analogy of a sugar cube dissolving in water). When this happens, the flow rate of creative energy moving through our channel increases and becomes a more powerful flow of energy. This gives us the ability to grow and create more efficiently because the metaphorical “pipes” are unclogged.

When we go inwards through any healing modality, ultimately we are thawing frozen creative energy and once fully felt, this energy loosens and starts to move how it wants to again.

Tapping into our true creative potential is about transforming the potential energy in our wounds into kinetic energy that moves and allows us to grow our creations more efficiently.

It feels important to note that we can be still, yet still move energy.

Being still is different from being stuck. Stuck is stagnant. Stagnancy is a pond that collects algae. Stillness is becoming the riverbed that is the Earth, directing and holding the flow of the river that is our creative channel.
